Texas construction market is one of the busiest in the US, but the labor shortage, which negatively affected North Texas construction industry in recent years, will continue in 2018 and it represents a big problem. According to reports of Dallas Builders Association, currently there are nearly 20,000 unfilled construction jobs in Dallas-Fort Worth. 
This situation is far from being new. The problem started with the great recession, when the construction industry has lost about 50% of the labor force. Even qualified workers were forced to look for other jobs and many did not come back when the crisis was over. In these circumstances, construction companies currently face real difficulties in trying to do just as much work with half as much workers… They must pay more, offer other benefits and think about various strategies in order to keep their current employees and attract new ones before other companies.
The recruitment process is not expected to produce better results this year. Young Americans are not interesting in having a job in construction anymore; many of them consider that it involves too much work and too little benefits, not to mention that the professional education have lost its glamour and most young people opt for superior education these days, even if it doesn’t suit them all.
